Reclaiming PPI from Firstplus, confused?

Recently I was clearing out my files and came across paperwork relating to a secured loan which was taken out in Sept 2000 with Firstplus, I noticed that PPI was added to our loan and that the loan was taken out over 10 years but the PPI only lasted for 5 years (I didn't know I had insurance). This loan was settled early however in Dec 2004.
I am new to this site and have been reading through everything and did not realise you could claim back PPI if you think you have been mis-sold it.
I wrote to Firstplus on Monday 16 March to see if we could claim it back and got a reply today (very fast) advising that the loan was taken out over 6 years ago and there is nothing they can do and if we still want to complain to go to the FSO. I know the loan was taken out in 2000 but it was not settled until Dec 2004 which is only 4.3 years ago. I dont know what to do now and would really appreciate any advice.

Hiya hun
You are one of many here with this company First plus, I would now move on to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) like they suggested and let them continue with this investigation now.
You can either ring the FOS to arrange for a form to come through the post or download on their website here:
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm
Enclose a copy of the letter from First plus.
Good luck with this hun and hope you get some luck through the FOS.;)
If you want any further help, just let us know. XThe one and only "Dizzy Di"

I don't think the FOS can look at FirstPlus PPI complaints before November 2001, but please check with them.DS1 12/10/04
