    Hi moneybuster.

I commend you for making a plan to sort this all out. I still do worry though. Do you know if payplan are allowing you to put savings and house maintenance stuff aside. IN 30 years you will have stuff you have not budgeted to pay for and when that happens, more than likely you will have to default on your dmp. Did payplan advise you would definately lose the house or is this something you just think will happen?

It is likely now that pay plan will put in writing all that you have discussed and they will send you a note of what they advise you pay where which you will agree to. Once they have this agreement, they will start contacting all your creditors. I would advise in the first instance that you send the template letter with your token payments as it will help them settle down a bit hopefully.

Welcome to the journey that is long haul debt repayment!!

    Hey MoneyBuster!

Congrats on sorting your money probs out! I went with Payplan over 4 years ago and it has been a breath of fresh air, it is damn hard at times though but for me it means that I am paying my debt back that I used.

First some honest truth - your creditors will hassle you for their money, this is the way the system works and how the staff have been trained so dont take it personally. Remember you arent the only one in debt plus you are wanting to handle it and pay the money owed back to them. Once you mention Payplan they do take a step back and are less in your face I have found.

Good luck on your journey, it is damn hard but you arent the only person on this wonderful ship called 'Debt'! Just got to watch out for those damn icebergs ;-)
  • Hi there, 30 years is a long time but I doubt Payplan will allow you to run it for that long. They will be expecting you to try to save in other areas if expenses and try to gain more income to put towards the debts.

We are with CCCS and with a high amount of debt of £43K at just £150 per month, we have been given a low start DMP which we have to try and cut other costs and earn extra. Our Debt free date is 23 years at the moment but we have to get it within 10 years to be on an ordinary DMP which will be around £355 a month.

You have done the right thing going for this and a lot happens in a year and so you may find to be in better situation to be able to afford more to bring your 30 years down.

No one knows whats going to happen 1, 2 or 3 years down the line, keep putting your numbers on the lottery, every extra £10 win makes a difference.

    Good luck with it all.

It's so good to hear other people's experiences and journeys that they are on. Alternating at the moment between relief that we will be able to pay our debt back and feeling like we have a noose around our necks for the next 30 years. Have to say we are having more moments of relief.

As you say, things can change and we'll b

    Hi Moneybuster,

There is no rule for what a creditor will do if the refuse your DMP. In my experience most will accept after seeing you make a few regular payments.

If they do refuse, then just keep paying them the DMP payment and wait. They could go for a CCJ, but all this would achieve if handled properly would be a judgement telling you to pay the amount on the DMP.

You really just have to wait and see.

  • I came online to see if anyone else has had issues with creditors ringing at stupid times. I changed my home number to stop the calls there, but they keep trying my mobile and of course during the day I am at work/

I am really grateful for the posts left by others, Payplan told me I don't have to speak to my creditors so I don't even pick the phone up if its an 0870 number, blocked, or just a number I've not seen before.

However they did say that if debts are sold on to a debt collection agency at that point I should contact the DCA, advise them I am with payplan, and be as co-operative as possible. Payplan advised the DCA's are usually less aggressive, and easier to negotiate with although I don't intend to do the latter.

But it is unsettling to get these calls- I've got half a mind to contact the OFT and complain- Payplan have been in touch with everyone- the DMP started 2 weeks ago (as in payments have commenced now)-but I will take the advice from the other posts and toughen up-thanks all for your honesty it's very supportive.
now debt free and determined to maintain good spending habits and build savings
