Hello *waves*
I'm about to graduate- well, in 2 months- and I was wondering if anyone in the same situation has started looking for jobs yet?
I want to earn proper money as soon as, I haven't been in plus money since the first week of third year. I miss it.

If you haven't started looking yet then you're going to be in trouble!0

Don't most graduate placements close before Christmas? With the time after used for assessment centres and such like?0

Start looking for jobs at the earliest opportunity. Especially in the circumstances we're in now. You'll find lots of employers started looking for graduates to fill roles/placements/schemes around Christmas time.
Do you have a specific graduates job search site for your area? I got my first graduate role via GraduatesYorkshire.0 -

According to the careers event at my uni last week graduate placements usually have application deadlines of October/November to start after graduation in August. So if you're looking for a graduate scheme placement you're going to be out of luck unless you apply for something to start next year and spend a year doing other work.
As far as everyone keeps telling us at my uni (and I'm only a first year), it is never too early to start looking for a job for after graduation.0 -
I'm not looking to get on a graduate scheme.
I'm studying journalism and hope to get into PR, and the kind of work I want to get into there are no schemes.
TBH, of my close friends at uni, I'm the only one thats put any thought to it, and I've been sending off CV's for months now and have interviews lined up for Easter.
But as no one I'm close to has looked into, I thought I was being pre-emptive. Obviously not lol.About me: 20, from London. Have you done any work experience at a magazine, advertising agency, PR company, anything like that?
I studied media with journalism. During my course I did work experience with a glossy mag as a staff writer. When I graduated they employed me on a freelance basis for 6 months, and after that I moved to advertising and am now a copywriter.
I'd strongly recommend contacting anywhere you've done work experience first, see if they have vacancies. And if you haven't done work experience, get some quickly - you'll find it almost impossible without any!0 -
If you want to earn 'proper money' soon in these careers, you may be in for an unpleasant surprise. Journalism's so competitive that people often start off by working for free - you'd be doing remarkably well to find a first job in the field that pays a good wage (if you find one that covers your rent and basic living costs, that would be comparatively good).0

Well, that really depends on how you go about it. I was earning 'proper money' the week after I graduated. I did all the leg work while still studying. Which is how it's supposed to go - work experience while you're studying, real work when you graduate.
I agree that the industry is competitive but there are jobs to be found for those who have the relevant experience.0 -
I have relevant work experience to what I want to do, I temped in various different places as well.
And by proper money, I mean, a wage- not being a student were my main source of income is a loan. I'm fully aware I'm going to have to put in a lot of work, and I've already started.About me: 20, from London. Happy but poorDebts at present: £4,500 Going to live back at home until they are sorted.
