On the 19th Feb I switched my British gas tariff to the websaver 1 and got email confirmation. Having just got my latest bill today I see I am actually on websaver 2. Now, I know that websaver 1 was withdrawn on the 19th (disappeared from the website a few hours aftre I switched) but the terms and conditions are quite different. I signed up for a tariff with a tie in until I think the end of Sept but websaver 2 has a much longer tie in. If I decide to switch to a new supplier in say November they will charge me £60 which seems must unfair. Can they do this?

I have made a complaint via email but I've a feeling they are just going to say that websaver 1 was withdrawn.

You should have received confirmation, and details of your right to cancel, of the deal you signed up to. If it was different to what you had applied for, that would have been the time to have raised the question and possibly cancelled the deal if it wasn't what you wanted.

Now you will be tied to the deal that you accepted by not having checked and objected to that confirmation.

If of course that confirmation indicated you would be on the web saver 1 tariff, that is what you should be on and you should contact British Gas to put the error right.

That sounds like confirmation that they received your request to switch.

You should also have received separate confirmation of the deal including your right to cancel.

I didn't receive anything else. I have switched a number of times from, click 3 to click 4 etc and each time only received one email as above.

Oops, sorry, my mistake - it was just a tariff change.
I thought you had actually changed supplier :o , (which I now realise you hadn't)

Yes, I would have thought that from the confirmation email you should be entitled to what you had applied for, i.e. websaver 1. :)

websaver 1 is cheaper than websaver 2, so don't hang about until later in the year to chased it.
You have your confirmation, and they should be able to switch you over relatively easily (or find someone who can).

When I signed up for Click 4 with British Gas I received an email confirmation but my first bill was sent to me showing the standard tariff. A quick call to British Gas soon rectified the mistake and I had my new Click 4 bill within a few days. Just give them a call.
