On the other side of the coin, if i only wanted a packet of cigs at the cig counter i wuld be livid if there were 10 customers in front of me with baskets of food.
this is true. If the OP had been buying cigs or a newspaper and they had 10 people in front of them at the kiosk, would they still be complaining? I think they would!

It's Morrison policy that you can only pay for items from the counter and newspapers at the kiosk. It's a bit unfair calling the assistant a jobsworth for pointing this out.
Nothing hacks me off more than standing in the kiosk queue to buy cigs or a paper and someone in front thinks it's okay to pay for their groceries at the kiosk.
All Morrisons have an A4 sign stating this sitting on the kiosk counter.
Why would anyone think they deserve special treatment then moan about 'customer service' when they are, quite rightly, told they cannot do what they want.
Also, there is a sign above the entrance barrier stating that products cannot be taken beyond them unless paid for.
