System recovery on laptop ?

    shut it down unexpectedly, pull out the power, remove battery if laptop.

    restart windows, it should give you the windows shut down unexpectedly screen with the option to continue loading windows or load in safe mode.

    load in safe mode and then try a system restore

    im not on a lap top but i do know where to find the battery, i m a little concerned in doing this, wot is safe mode, how would this rectify the problem

    if it's not a laptop it won't have a battery (apart from the motherboard cell, i don't mean that one)
    sometimes a resore point is corrupted and windows won't allow any restore unless its in safe mode. i think it's worth a try, and if you have XP its totally reversable if it doesn't solve you problem.

    Safe Mode. Then just do a Sys Res as you would in normal mode. The desktop will look a little strange, but you should still be able to navigate to Sys Restore.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    rite, got it into safe mode, i took out the battery on the circuit board, which i may have made many years ago lol,
    i did a system restore, it worked
    i will do another in a few days time (normally) to see if its back to normal
    i will let u know
