Bank Lost My Deposit, £100's In Fees And Bad Credit Rating

So far I've spoken to them on the phone as soon as I realised. The very next day I sent them a letter with a copy of the receipt and stating that it is costing me money and it's their fault. And yesterday I sent them a 'secure message' via my on-line account stating how I am fed up with waiting, outlining the ongoing costs and fees etc. No reply yet though.

Regarding my credit rating can they fix that or will the fact the payments to credit card, loan and mortgage companies have been missed mean that there is too many parties involved to fix? I could really do with a 0% card right now.

I believe you can contest false information held on the credit reference agencies databases, but unfortunately the info is not erroneous. However, it is not your mistake, this is a complicated one. Gut feeling is you may not be able to amend the details but this should not be too much of a problem in the long run. But as for applying for 0% CC, this may affect you.

BTW, would the sum you were paying in cover all of your commitments, or would you have missed payments anyway? This may affect the outcome.

If the bank really isnt playing ball, open another account with a different institution and threaten to leave, banks are always keen to hang on to business so this may make them stand to attention, but make sure you can get another A/C before you do this

There was enough in there to cover what needed paying and I would of put a little more in around now to cover another payment. Problem is that now whatever I would put in would just go on their charges until they sort the problem out. So I really don't want to give them a penny more.

Definitely think about changing to a bank or building society that has a much closer branch to yourself

oh dear what a story. A&L messed up my account in January by sending a large SO out twice. Of course I went over the OD limit and like the OP got fees galore! Other DD and SO then didn't go causing me all sorts of problems. Despite admitting over the phone (10 calls) it was their fault I received a letter from them at the end of feb to say that the matter had been looked at and the fees would stand and the case closed! Its been a nightmare and I finally threatened the FO and a letter to the Sunday Times! They rang the next day to apologise!

Its now the end of march and the problem still hasnt been fully sorted. They have given me a temporary £1500 to tide me over but that leaves my account in the next day or two. After a month they've finally told me that they can't claim back the second SO and I have to do this myself. They have given me £10 compensation altogether!!!

OP: make sure you get names of anyone you speak to and time of call.. note everything they say.

I actually use Halifax as my main account so as soon as my 8.1% is up I'm off... taking my ISA cash with me.. as is my OH.

Stay away from A&L at all costs!!!

Thanks Butterfly 72, just when I thought things couldn't get any worse you show me that they can.

My account is their online one I am sick of it. Everytime I try to go online I can't. I would say that when I try to log in 90% of the time it won't let me. It's really annoying as I thought their online 'secure message' would be the quickest way to get a response, but it's useless if you can't get online to use it.

I feel a trip to my nearest branch coming up!!!

Guess what I got in the post today.

Lots of forms from Alliance and Leicester for me to fill in to reclaim charges due to financial hardship.

Now I'm confused. A few days before the money went missing I sent off a cheque for £10 and a letter stating I wanted a list of all the fees they had charged me over the last 6 years so I could, like many others, attempt to claim back unfair charges. But that cheque has not been cashed yet and I have not received a list of all charges to date, so are these forms to do with the charges since they lost my £200 rather than any old charges? If so were is my £200?
