I think the point of the thread is that the money promised by Labour politicians didn't materialize when it was needed. Lots of talk and promises but little action.

but thats because all iof our improvements have been based on PFI, not money that the treasury had to have

Anyone expelled forgoes the right to any benefits from the age of 16 to 30.

I would just say no benefits until they had completed 10 years in employment, but then I'm a generous soul!

I agree. most private schools still have paint flaking off the walls and have blackboards.

I dont see how building a hugely expensive school with modern overpriced whiteboards improves a kids education. They should have just doubled the number of teachers and made schools stricter. Anyone expelled forgoes the right to any benefits from the age of 16 to 30.

That would focus their minds wouldnt it?

My son was expelled from his school when in year 3, they stated he was unteachable.

He is now in High School, an absolute joy to have (according to the teachers), on their gifted and able programme and recently awarded mathematician of the month.

The difference was in going to a school which catered to his needs rather than a school that was one size fits all (oh and one which actually listened to the specialists instead of finding something which worked and then taking it away as he was 'better'- you don't get better from Aspergers!)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I work literally 20 yards away from barnsley college. They have apparently started demolition and now there is no money to finish the demolition. Is it a shock for us to hear this, uhm NO. It was in the local rag 3 weeks ago that there was no money to fund this or to fund a new rebuild. Why start it in the first place. I know there is, in many peoples eyes a need for regeneration but to be honest having a well run economy is by far more important to me rather than throwing money at in your face buildings that make a statement of art.

I went to this college and apart from being old there was nothign wrong with it other than how it looked.

Our market as all but been destroyed due to regeneration. Regeneration is all well and good but the cheifs cannot seem to manage the indians very well and its all very costly!

My dd is going to my old high school, planned to be ripped down for a super school. This school only 2 years ago had a new science block built thats very high tech. If they spent a fraction of the money that is planned for the new superschool on refacing the old schools and actually keeping up with maintenance then we should not need to waste millions before the building has even started.
You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !

Would you like to speak to the man in charge, or the woman who knows whats happening?

It's all part of a culture where even the language is distorted into new and grotesque shapes to conceal politicians' lies. Where the word 'investment' trips from their tongues, when what they mean is 'expenditure'. Where, quite literally, 'more' has come to mean 'less' - certainly in in terms of results.

I think the point of the thread is that the money promised by Labour politicians didn't materialize when it was needed. Lots of talk and no action

That's what we get continuously with this gubernant – much talk and spin, but no effective action. I have never felt such a lack of trust in a government as I do with this lot. They should have been kicked out a year or so ago, as soon as this financial crisis began. How can we have a situation where a government that, let's face it, contributed to a large measure to the financial crisis – the members of which have their snouts in the same trough as the thieving moneylenders – is still in power? It is just unbelievable.

Correct. So much for 'democracy'. The government can stay in power for five years up to 2010 with impunity. Nothing we can do about it.
