Motorcycle insurance

Hi everyone.

I am currently in the process of trying to insure my Yamaha R6 :D and I have been looking at my options in terms of insurance.

I have noticed some companies offer "specialist" superbike insurance, such as the one in the link and others, just standard fare deals. Do these "specialist" insurers give a better discount / service than general insurers or is it just marketing talk?

Can anyone recommended the company above?

Thanks,
Chris

They are often cheaper than normal Insurers but not always so it pays to shop around for the best combination of price and cover. There are quite a few Casback deals for Motor Cycle Insurance.

I have used Bikesure who are a broker (They will look at a number of different Insurers for you) and they are quite good. Also look at Bennents and Carol Nash.

The other thing to do is have a look in the motorbike magazines and Yamaha Owners Clubs as they often have good deals for owners

Hi, another fellow R6 owner here.

I find the best way to do it is to grab a copy of MCN etc... then phone every single insurance company/broker in the back pages (takes a couple of hours) but is well worth it, finally managed to get my premium down to £152 (fully comp, 25 with 2years NCB) from £300 odd.

When you get your cheapest quotes, ring the other company back and play them off against each other.

I generally find the "specialist" insurers are no where near as cheap as they make out to be, although they may be cheaper for folks with convictions etc.. but touch wood have never had to go down that route.

Go with the biggest and best bike insurer - Norwich Union.

You pay a premium for insurance; half a premium for no insurance....
    Reassuringly expensive

Who has rated them the best insurer? And what standards and checks did they use to arrive at this decision?

In your opinion? Or what? How are they the 'best'?

This would have been acurate a few years ago, only problem is they are not the largest Motorbike Insurer as they decided to "Withdraw" from the market a few years ago. They do not offer cover anymore that is branded Norwich Union for motorbikes although they do underwrite a few of the schemes either wholly or partially with another Insurer.

If your interested the biggest Motorcycle Insurer in the UK is currently Cox

(I do not work for Cox or ERS and have only pointed out they are the biggest, I have not passed any opinion on their quality as an Insurer)

and NU were not rated very well by their own customers as reported in the 2008 Drivers Power survey carried out by Auto Express.
