window locking mechanism dropped

double glazed window and noticed the handle was loose so tightened the screw up yesterday

previously had noticed that you had to move the handle more than 90deg to allow window to open to put it on the latch

come to open it this morning and the window won't open at all, handle turns 180deg now but to no effect

any ideas on cost to fix it or ideas where to look to fix it myself ?

Your first problem will be opening it, you can try removing the handle and seeing if the spindle is actually turning if it is then the follower in the window gearbox is shot. and would to be forced open! if you dont know how to do this best get a pro in or it could cost you a lot more in the long run.

Someone came down earlier, took the lock to pieces, gave it a couple of whacks, put handle back in hole, got window open, took handle out and gave it couple more whacks just to make sure, put it all together again and hey presto, a working window lock once more

    LMAO !
  • Sounds like the spindle came out of the handle, i'd take the handle back off and put a little adhesive around the spindle where it beds into the handle
