@anniehanlon They are in loads of debt but nothing seems to get done about that either, They just don't answer the door.
Well, of course, if she were working 37 hours a week, even on minimum wage, she'd be £30 a week better off after deductions, which would make a lot of difference as she's on a low wage.
Don't forget, she's incredibly lucky to have a council flat for herself and at such a low rent. Many people are paying double this to rent a room in a shared house.
Once she gets her NVQ3 she needs to look for a better paid job with full time hours as the next step in her career.0 -
God mate if you saw the state of the flats she lives in you wouldn't pay £40P/W and the other 3 tenants in the block of 4 flats are total scum! She came off her nights as she couldn't sleep during the day because of the noise now she gets woken up most nights by the noise. Thanks for all your help anyways :-) Loving the forum.0

Then she should pay an economic rent and go into a flat share in a nicer part of town - although she'll need to work full time to be able to afford this!0 -
She wouldn't be better off on benefits actually, as I'm assumimg that with the single person's discount her CT is about £75 pcm? Thats £14 per week, (if paid over 12 months, if this isn't the case, tell her to contact the council and arrange this, most will.)which added to her rent of £56 per week leaves her with £60, which is what she would get on benefits if she is over 25 (I think). Have just seen that she is 22 so she'd get £45 per week on benefits (again I think). So the answer is to up her income, either by going full time, or taking on extra work. Good on you for being responsible!0

'Discussion Time' is in the Money Savers' arms, right at the very bottom of the forums menu. That is the place to discuss benefits policy (or anything else that takes your fancy!).
I hope your girlfriend manages to get a few more hours and wish you both well.
My son is in a simialr position with his job at Matalan, btw- part time hours and not entitled to any Benefits because he is single with no children, - so i do know how you feel!
I wish you both well.
