Council Tax - 10 or 12 months

Well I have chased the council and they are going to get back to me so I guess watch this space.
Interesting that they push for the 10 month payment period when everything else in on a 12 month basis0 -
Think it very much depends on what the council will allow. My council let you pay over 12 months as long as you set up a direct debit (they even very kindly let you have a choice of three dates in the month for the payments to go out). Any other method (other than a lump sum up front!) involves the normal 10 payments.0

See above.
The Council Tax Regulations allow for 10 monthly instals - those allowing 12 months do so at their own discretion.WARNING!Alcohol can make you think you are more interesting and attractive than you actually are.....0 -
It's the same as water companies, they expect payment over 10 instead of 12 months as well. But again they sometimes will change it if you ask.
I personally prefer to pay over 10 months giving me 2 free months of water and council tax. I've had a spare £298 in the last 2 months. It's helped me get debt free a lot quicker rather than just saving the £27 every month.0 -
They collect it over the ten months so it gives them two months to collect any outstanding before the end of the financial year (well in theory anyway), so I suppose they are not always going to be keen to change. Mine will let you pay in ten or twelve.0

Yeah, I have to admit I too like the 'grace' period of the 2 month thing when you don't pay. Everyone got hit with new bills yesterday ... I can tell you the call centre at the council concerned was pretty much overloaded with the volume of calls.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Mine insist it's paid over 10 months - so, what I do is work out how much it is over the whole year and just start paying it early.
Why they can't do it over 12 is beyond me, and I wonder why I can't choose a monthly payment date unless I'm on direct debit. We get paid weekly so it is inconvenient way to pay, thye even told me I can't pay weekly by standing order, but I do, I just ensure they get the moeny before it's due each month.Payment a day challenge: £236.69

Called my council and asked that payments be spread over 12 months, they refused.
They state that the only way they can do this is if I fall into arrears. They will take my case to court, apparently with no negative bearing on my credit rating, then gain an order from which they can agree a payment plan, over 12months. The court summons piece will add £40 to my bill.
I am not happy about this and am about to write to the Council Leader .0
