made redundant, appears unfair

Hi,
I have been confirmed as being made redundant. The firm I work for appear know to be digging up a six month old issue for some purpose.
They are claiming a item of kit is missing. It would be worth £3-400 but not really the point. They say I was responsible for it and that they want to know where it is.
I had not been asked about it until one week before consulataion started, the day consulatation started, after week 1 and again as being confirmed redundant and then again today, 5 days after being made redundant.
I have been consistent with my reply but there not having it. The company I work for has 2 depots and this item was sent hired and sent from HQ, I ran the other smaller depot. After being off hired we were asked to collect it. A colleague then lent it out for the purpose of selling a new one. Upon its trail it was found to be broken.
He then discussed it with a director at HQ who was resposible for it. They agreed a course of action which led to it being given to a customer to look at for the pupose of fixing.
It has since disappared and now I'm being asked where it is.
My colleague has left 4-5 months ago and I'm been asked for it before my end date.
I have said I have no idea, they have asked me again and again where is it. I don't now. It was between the director and the colleague who left. The director as you would imagine is washing his hands and asking me where is it?
Finding the whole thing reallly stressful. I'm 38, 3 kids, redundant and don't need this sort of acquisation. Feel I have been harassed about it. Also feel it was probably why I was suggested for redundancy.
Any way can anyone help confirm whether or not there are harassing me or maybe even just being malicious.
replies would be great, not the sort of company to look after its employee's, and i'm not the sort of person that deserves this treatment......who would

I really feel for you. Not sure on your best course of action just tossing out some ideas.
You could:
1. Write to the management describing the course of events in your message. You may not want to point the finger at the director or your old colleague, but it may be best to be as open as possible
2. Find your old colleague and ask them for details on the customer and track them down and see if they still have it
3. Write a formal complaint to HR or Peronnel stating that you are being repeatedly asked the same questionLindsayO
Goal: mortgage free asap
15/10/2007: Mortgage: £110k Term: 17 years
18/08/2008: Mortgage: £107k Mortgage - Offset savings: £105k
02/01/2009: Mortgage: £105k Mortgage - Offset savings: £99k0 -
it sounds like you are getting close to the time you are leaving
I think I would want to put my concerns in writing to defend my reputation
at elast then if the situation worsens and you feel you need to go further (eg they deduct the £3-400 from your pay) then you have a basis to start from
try to remian reasonable and polite in any written complaint
if you are thinking of going beyond just protecting your reputation, then you need proper advice0 -
They have insurance to cover loss, they shouldn't be making a deduction from you without at least raising a case with the police. Get everything in writing!0

They will have been planning the consultation at the time of first raising the issue with you. There is a link.
I would join others in recommending you write setting out the chain of events relating to the missing item. Explain fully what you know as facts and sum up saying you have nothing further to add to help them locate the item.
(They could try to contact your former colleague - HR will have contact details at the time he left - and there is no need for you to get involved in following up a former employee.)0
