Unlikely defrag will run on less than 15% hard drive it usually fails.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

That's correct. Run Disk Cleanup first. Then you need to lose some files/programs, and then run defrag. You want to get about 11GB of free space.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

virtual memory warning, is an indicator of low RAM not hard disk space. it means windows has to use your hard drive temporarily because the RAM is maxed out at peaks
removing resorce hungry applications will improve matters if you want a free fix. Alternate is to add more RAM.

Not true. The low virtual memory message appears when the total of physical RAM plus virtual memory (swap file) is insufficient. Ergo this occurs only if the hard disk has insufficient space to create a large enough swap file to meet the lack of physical RAM resources (assuming that the swap file is configured to be 'system managed'). As you say, the best option is to have enough physical RAM such that a swap file is never required. But as the OP already has a disk drive that is nearly full the logical option is a larger hard drive.

i disagree 1.5gb is ample for virtual memory. the message appeared because insufficient hard disk had been allocated for the swap file, not because it wasn't available due to low hard disk space.
windows managed and increased the virtual memory to accomodate for low ram, it did not report it was unable to, due to no space

Download CCLEANER (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION' ~ make sure YAHOO TOOLBAR is unticked on installation)
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)

Have you run ccleaner? If so how much rooms on your drive now?
(if not I suggest you do)

You have avgs anti spyware and avira on. Avira version 9 has spyware included so uninstall AVG and download the latest avira ~
Download AVIRA ANTI VIRUS PERSONAL (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/

I assume youve run Kaspersky, Panda and Norton ONLINE scans at some point as theyre showing in your log?

Your only on SERVICE PACK 2 when you should be on 3 (But you will almost certainly need to clear some space before attempting that)

Nothing in your log that should be taking any room though (Save for a few im unsure what they do)

Can you not backup all your files to clear space? (avi files, pictures or whatever)

    hi there,

thanks for the advice - im going to uninstall avg now and try and back up as much as I can so that 15% of the drive is free. I have ran cccleaner and it doesn't remove much (16mb to be precise)

I do have alot of games and music files on my pc which is probably hogging all the space.

You don't need 15% free, just some free, concentrate on reducing the programs that run at startup, too much security software will slow things down and use all your ram, leading to swapping

How much ram do you have?

Get Ashampoo Win Optimizer, the best piece of software I ever used for optimisations... and from a good name too.
