employee trashed company car

a soon to be ex employee has trashed a car . It was in excellent condition less than a year ago now with kids & pets it looks like nothing on earth and they are trying to get it in lieu of pay
what can we do if the book value has dropped which it certainly has

    Do you give employees a hand book which explains there resposibilities with regards to company cars and if so does it cover this

    In addition to the above, was it owned or leased by the company?

    and what do you mean when you say they are trying to get it in lieu of pay? Is the employee offering to take a reduced final salary payment and keep the car? Do you WANT the car back? If not, that might be your best option, if the figures can be successfully negotiated.
