hi. i am new to all this computer business so please be gentle with me. when trying to burn a dvd to disc i find i need to use a dvd-rw. if i copy onto this will it play on my TV through my dvd recorder that takes dvd+rw?..one more question if i may. i have been sent an e-mail that has been compressed ( if thats the correct word), so i can't open it without something called a zip. i thought with a new laptop with windows xp, that this would be already installed but obviously not, so how do i download this

Hi
Open up My Computer, on the left hand side, click view system info, goto Hardware, Device Manager, scroll down to DVD/CD devices, if you have more than one it will have a + sign, click that, now what does it say, look for the model, ie sony, nec, etc0 -
Hi

Hi
Yes, thats a dvd-r, so if your dvd player can only play dvd+, then you won't be able to play it.
So now whats the make/model of your player
Sorry0 -
my player is ALBA rdvd 1002. it clearly says in the manual to use dvd+rw or dvd+r so looks like i will have to use the laptop to watch my dvd that i copy..at least i have learned a little this evening0

Hi
Sorry couldn't be more help, if you ever buy in the future at least you know to go for a dvd writer/player that takes both formats and then you'll have no problems with compatability.0
