Converting DVD to mpeg4

can anyone recommend free software on the net that will do this? I want to add movies to my ipod touch to watch while i'm travelling. cheers

Use DVD Decrypter to copy the DVD onto your computer, and then HandBrake to convert it to mp4.

HandBrake is an absolutely fantastic piece of software.

I certainly agree with Marty to use Decryptor to put VIDEO_TS (dvd) files onto your hard drive
Then id personally use XviD4PSP that Browntoa posted last to convert it

It's a wonderful piece of software, you should try it out.

It also runs on Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows, which is nice.

Ive heard a few say that. I will do actually. But I SWEAR by XVID4PSP as its one of the few pieces of software that will convert some Matroska files to work on my PS3 (Matroskas are tricky little blighters at times) without looking 'compressed'

Yep, I'd imagine it has a profile for that. If not, you should be able to create your own profile in handbrake or Staxrip.
