If you have a 100W bulb on for 10 hours, it'll have used 1 kWh of electricity i.e. 1 unit.
Look at your electricity bill to see how much you are charged per kWh."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Which website?
If you have ten 50w halogen bulbs, that's 500watts, so about 12p or whatever you pay per kwh for a couple of hours. Not much but ... for us lighting's an issue. There are six of us in a three bedroom house so a lot of rooms in use a lot of the time. A lot of bulbs for a lot of hours. Every day. So it does make sense for us to have energy saving bulbs in rooms used a lot. In our last house, we put spotlights in, wouldn't do it now.0 -

I am assuming this is not a 'wind up'
A 100W bulb(about the biggest you can get) costs approx 1p(one penny) an hour.
A halogen light is normally 50W so 0.5p an hour. so 10 = 5p an hour.
An energy saving bulb(depending on size) will cost 1p(one penny) for between 7 hours and 14 hours use.0 -
if you find a bulb that costs 50p/hour to run...I wouldn't be in the same room when you power it up...:)0
