If you have a 100W bulb on for 10 hours, it'll have used 1 kWh of electricity i.e. 1 unit.

Look at your electricity bill to see how much you are charged per kWh.

    Which website?

If you have ten 50w halogen bulbs, that's 500watts, so about 12p or whatever you pay per kwh for a couple of hours. Not much but ... for us lighting's an issue. There are six of us in a three bedroom house so a lot of rooms in use a lot of the time. A lot of bulbs for a lot of hours. Every day. So it does make sense for us to have energy saving bulbs in rooms used a lot. In our last house, we put spotlights in, wouldn't do it now.

I am assuming this is not a 'wind up'

A 100W bulb(about the biggest you can get) costs approx 1p(one penny) an hour.

A halogen light is normally 50W so 0.5p an hour. so 10 = 5p an hour.

An energy saving bulb(depending on size) will cost 1p(one penny) for between 7 hours and 14 hours use.

if you find a bulb that costs 50p/hour to run...I wouldn't be in the same room when you power it up...:)
  • Does your lightbulb look anything like this?
