Anyone dealt with HFO Services, Croydon?

Long story short-my better half gave his brother a Barclaycard on his A/C (as brothers own credit rating was non existant) on the understanding that he would be responsible for paying what he spent. You guessed it, he left us with a bill of £350-ish. After a bit of correspondence with HFO services my husband paid the outstanding balance on condition that HFO would not put anything adverse on our credit file. You've guessed it, they have. We have written to credit ref agencies who have asked HFO to remove said reference but they have refused . Any ideas how we remove this reference on our credit file??? Thanks in advance...

Did your OH get HFO to put in writing that they would not put a default on the account before he paid?

  • I am guessing you could have sent it to the credit reference people?

Credit ref people can only ask HFO to remove it. They said no......

  • That is appalling. Could you report them to ombudsman?

Sorry but legally the debt is/was yours - I strongly doubt that unless you have written proof that they stated they would not mark his credit record then you won't get very far.
Although the card was used by your OHs brother it was in your OHs name and he knowingly and voluntarily gave it to him so you can't even claim fraud/theft.
I know it's no help now but this is exactly why you should never take credit out for anyone else (and if someone has a second card on your account then always make sure you check the account regularly to make sure that there isn't something going on that shouldn't be...)
Sadly I expect that HFOs argument is that the account holder is responcible for managing the account and ensuring it is paid on time and they would legally be right...
All you can really do is beg I think...

Thanks Mrs T-yes it was daft of us to believe he'd pay. What's annoyed us, is we paid it as soon as we knew about it, and yet still had a bad mark against our file. They promised not to put anything untoward on our file, and then reneged on it.They ignore all letters etc....

Being a bit devils advocate here, but I would have thought as far as credit rating goes, your OH has proved he is not to be trusted with credit by the fact that he put a known bad payer on his card. Bit harsh but I think has a grain of truth in it.
