Taste test

Hi all,

I would like to request the help of the friendly people on here.

I very much liked Martin Lewis taste test challenge with a value product (supermarket) and a branded product.

I have been asked to do a presentation at a University and would like to demonstrate this to the students in order to emphasise the fact that they can save money by not buying brands.

I don't have the time to do this with cereal like Martin does, but I would like to use other products.

Could you please recommend which would be the best?

Thanks,

TY.

    Baked beans

    Pot noodles

    Alcohol

Isn't that what students live on:rotfl:

I'd choose strawberry yoghurt and orange squash.

    Hi,
I would suggest using fresh orange (from concentrate). Tesco do a Value Fresh Orange from concentrate for about 52p - same thing (even in their Tescos own) is more expensive (and tastes IDENTICAL) and, as I am sure you will be aware, the household brands Del Monte etc charge a fortune for exactly the same thing! Should be a simple product to compare.

  • oh, I have done this with young people before - we have used jaffa cakes, ginger nuts, ready salted crisps and juice.

In a blind test taste, some prefer value, some premium brand, but both versions are generally agreed to be fine!

    Thank you for your reply.

I think it would be too time consuming, and not as effective to use baked beans and pot noodles.

Alcohol would be irrenponsible of me to bring into a presentation! :)

    Thank you for your ideas.

Thank you for your ideas, they are simple and don't take long to set up so would be good.

Jaffa cakes mcvities and supermarket brand.
Ready salted crisps (walkers) and supermarket brand.

    any more suggestions are welcome.

try some tinned fruit - like peaches/pears/manarin segments?

could pick one cereal - like cornflakes / rice krispies / weetabix ?

tomato ketchup / salad cream / sandwich pickle ?
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

bottled water - supermarket brand v expensive brand v tap water

    jam

even maybe some fresh fruit or veg - i.e supermarkets often have their own value brand bags of fruit v the loose pick you own.
