Is e-on gathering meter readings for southern electric instead of siemens now?

If in doubt, you can always call your supplier and give your customer reading directly to them.
Also enquire about the password protection scheme. If a meter reader then calls at your door and doesn't have the appropriate password, don't let him in.

It seems odd to me that the card asks for your MPAN number as well as a read, I would have thought that info was already available to a meter reader....my first thought is it could be a dodgy salesman fishing for customers.
That's exactly what I thought straight away, as Siemens never asked for the MPAN number all the time they have been taking the readings. Why would E-on ask for it, combined with the last reading?
I never let them in, as I am always at work when they come, they just leave the card. I leave the card outside with the readings for them to collect the day after.
Usually, if they don't leave a card, I check my bill on the southern website and if there is too much of a difference I give them the right reading.
I find that card business a bit pointless, but I suppose not everyone has a computer or can use one.
I've heard about these Smart Meters, my guess is that it'll take a good while to replace all the meters, let see how it'll work in a block of 60+ flats.
Who's gonna get whose readings?0
