Average price of flats

Hi all,

A quick question if anyone can help - have been trawling the net but am only getting stats for houses - can anyone tell me the average % difference in value on a flat compared to what it would have been in Jan 2007?

Many thanks.

in my area house have dropped at bit but flats are still really expensive.

you can get a 2 bedroom terrace house for the equivilent of a reasonably sized 1 bed front. or a 2 bed semi for the price of a 2 bedroom flat.

What price are flats is a very broad question.

There are different sorts and sizes of flats, new ones, old ones, newly converted ones. There are nice/posher established flats - and BTL half-empty hell holes. There are a lot of towns in this country ... and they all have flats. Waterside? Sea views? By a station? Tiny? Huge?

Compared to January 2007 though, knock at least 20% off that price.
  • As has been suggested it is dangerous to apply generalised indicators - they will vary from area to area and type of property to type of property. For instance I would suspect that fancy flats near marinas will have lost more vlaue because wealthy people would have them as weekend retreats - in a time of depression they sell second homes leaving too many on the market.

I have seen in my auction watching activities over the last year, that flats (built in the last 5 years) are selling at 50% off their mid 2007 prices.

If you want a flat, go to the auctions.
