A no-holds barred belter of a Laptop

Options
OK. If money were no object (within reason), what Laptop would you buy for business purposes (i.e. it's not for Quake or Doom!!)? And why?

It has to impress, be reasonably portable, and have the usual Microsoft trappings on it...

Thoughts?

I know you said not for doom3 or quake but if money was no object I think this one looks good and has good components.

Woohoo - just configured my own laptop on Alienware and it came to £3,530.88

    Astounding!!
Treat others as you would like to be treated :A
  • Hey guys, I know it looks smart - but if I wanted smart I'd get the rather ludicrous Acer Ferrari... but the Alienware stuff is just simply overpriced for what you get... come on, let's get a little serious about this... please!!

If money were no object and I wanted the best money could buy I would have one with NONE of the usual Microsoft trappings. I'd be beating a path to Apple's door.

  • On a separate note, has anyone had any experience of Rock Direct - they seem to have some tasty laptops...

I get the point about Apple, but I think they're overpriced too, and I really don't want to re-learn a GUI all over again!

Agree with that. Just bought 2 of the Vaio TX1XP/B Centrino 753 1GB 60GB DVD+/-DL 11.1" - they are extremely portable lightweight good looking machines. A bit under 1600 inc VAT.

    With regards to Rock.

I have experience of purchasing 6 of there laptops over the last 3 years. They have all been reliable. One had trouble with the lid cracking at the hinges twice both time the repair was done within 24hours however this was because we took them back to the factory.

Take account of the 3 year warranty that is in the price, (it was when I bought them)

    Worth a look.

I have a sony Vaio myself. It is well made and perhaps casewise better than the rocks. It is let down by the spec but that was down to costs.
It deos not come with a three year warranty.

    Hope this helps.
