There was one near to where I live, the car park was always empty, a sad day for lots of people as they join the other 2 million.

It's a major electrical store, bit like Currys. There has been one near me for 30 years +, so I don't know if they are just a regional company from the North/Midlands. I thought they were national.

  • Apollo 2000 had stores in, Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield, Wolverhampton, Redditch, Worcester, Gloucester, Poole, Blackpool, Preston, Cheltenham, Stoke, and Oxford, Oxford closed a few years ago and they spent big money opening a store in Cannock last year. I worked for them for 6 years but left in Jan 08. The company was awefull to its employees so it doesnt shock me that they shut the doors and didnt say a word to them. I must have told them a dozen times to get out but various mates wouldnt listen, and now they got mortgages and car payments they cant make. Misplaced loyalty really. The company had no real business sense, it exchanged items over the phone without even looking at them, sometimes a blown fuse or a customer re wiring a plug was to fault (which in itself invalidates the warrenty!!!) so we could have anything up to £15000 worth of faulty stock lying around awaiting uplifts to manufacturers. They hardly ever listened to staff and just bulldozed into ideas that clearly wouldnt work. They couldnt decide on delivery charges in the entire 6 years i worked for them, first it was free, them free over £100, then £15, then free again, then £15 again, and when i left they changed again to free over £99 and £15 under or something stupid. They stopped us playing footy in an enclosed yard during break times for "health and safety" reasons and yet demanded we worked until every last delivery was completed, sometimes from 8am - 8pm without a break. Hardly healthy or safe practice really is it??? They almost never paid overtime, they wanted us to claim time back in hours by going early but then when we ever asked "sorry were to busy" echoing around an empty warehouse. They then ditched the regular reliable installers in favour of cheaper (ie we will give you a back hander) alternatives. Not a good idea when your fitting gas appliances, or washing machines in 3 or 4 story flats. They moaned like hell that we wanted 2 men on certain jobs when delivering, ie heavy goods, delicate goods, up stairs etc... because they had no staff in the warehouse to go fetch for the sales staff. If it sounds like i'm !!!!!ing its because i am, i worked alot of unpaid hours for that company for 6 years to help out, and save the store when it was going under (4 years ago). We brought it back from the brink and not one person said goodbye when i left, they even stole 2 weeks holiday pay i was owed from the previous year. Which i was told i would get. Any time a customer complained about the service the took the customers side (no offence but who do you trust, someone who spent £100 or someone youve known 6 years)??

I was nearly sacked twice, once for "not pushing a customers fridge underneath work surface" eve though i hadn't been asked to. And it was now a 40 mile round trip to go back and do just that. The second time apparently we cut someone up in walsall, gave them the V's and then chased them and thier disabled son for 2 miles down Mellish Road. In fact HE cut US up, we waved him down to tell him that his brake lights werent working and the so called disabled son was STANDING on the back seat being held by his mom as she wrote our number down, all this as his dad is speeding away.

I am not surprised and not sorry that Apollo has gone, i left last year to go and make movies, and take care on my new baby. I'm just finishing my first proper movie and im enjoying spending time with my boy. I did tell my mates to get out but hey you can lead a horse to water.

Ultimately Nick Barret (chairman) and his posse are still sitting in Barbados supping Tequila as its a Ltd Company, so theyre fine. They can pat thier steak filled mid rif and decide who fills up the Bentley this evening. As for the grunts...... ah what's the bloody point.

You should of pushed the fridge under the work surface.

    ;)
    Not Again
  • i shouldhave pushed the customer under the work surface and the fridge on top of the customer. But seriously, this was just one of many silly situations that could have been avoided, if people just used thier heads. I mean why would a driver and his mate drive 20 miles away knowing they would have to drive back just to push a fridge six inches (unless they werent asked to). Doesnt make a heap a sense hehehe.

Is it not the norm to push a fridge under the worktop? Am I missing something?
