Building Insurance

 Just a quick one - these forms have come back on me and hence are delaying the sale of my poperty
When I originally brought it I didn know whether or not to have buildings insurance so took it out anyway alongside contents insurance
Then last year I cant remember who said to me but when the renewal came up someone said I wouldnt need it as the freeholder lives downstairs and they would be responsible for building insurance

Now the buyers solicitors are requesting these forms and I dont have them!! Will this stop the sale of my flat going through and what can I do>>>>????

The fact that they'er asking for it sounds like you're leasehold and the lease shows that the freeholder is responsible for insuring the building. You need to pay them your share though!

Speak to your solicitor about the contents of your lease.

You can buy buildings insurance now and provide evidence of cover if it is your responsibility but you need to check what the obligations are and ask your solicitor to explain properly what you need.

Tanks for replying I have sent my solicitors a detailed report of the lease, and told them that when I first brought the property I wasnt sure so I took out both contents and buildings insurance but someone informed me (cant remmeber who) that if my freeholder lived downstiars then it was she that was responsible for the building insurance and therefore I didnt re-new it after a year - I spose I can always get buildings insurance in one phone call if I need it?
