Mercy just spotted you (((Mercy))) Have you read the Fifty Shades trilogy yet ???
Just invented mulled Earl Grey tea.. make the Earl Grey and in the mug add one fairly small slice lemon, a little grating of nutmeg and a cinnamon stick. Mmm if I say so myself. You could use a tiny bit of ground cinnamon instead of a stick if you don't have one and try a clove maybe (might be too strong ?) or a bashed green cardamom pod ??
Night night xx
Hi Edwardia!
No, not started them yet, I hear they're nicely rude so will get around to them soon I expect:rotfl:
The mulled Earl Grey sounds lovely

murphydog999 wrote: »Marrbett, if you input whatever flour you are using into the nutrition website I posted, you will see that flour is rated as moderately to strongly inflammatory - not much difference between white and wholemeal - so Edwardia is right, it would be best to wean off it. (Don't forget, whilst we have had a bit of cholesterol talk, it is inflammatory foods that harden the arteries, not fat!).
Re. cakes there are some lovely chocolate cakes made with almond flour. I've perfected some using different flavourings that, using muffin cases, are around 5-7g carbs each depending what chocolate you use. This recipe makes 5-6 muffins,
2 large eggs
50g 75+ dark chocolate
50g ground almonds
50g butter
50g sugar (this is what the recipe says but it's too sweet for me, I use 40g, split between stevia and molasses sugar - less carbs than refined white sugar and tastier in cakes. You could always use all sweetener but I prefer not to.
1/2 tsp baking powder (although I've found results not bad without)
Splash of cream.
To this you can add flavourings like peppermint, ginger or orange/grated orange peel, or add dark choc drops/ chopped nuts (I personally like pecans with a whole pecan on the top.)
Melt the butter and chocolate together, add the flavouring and cream and leave to one side.
Separate the eggs, whisk egg whites until stiff. Leave to one side.
Whisk the sugar and egg yolks until light and creamy (def need an electric whisk for this unless you want a good work out!)
Add the melted choc to the sugar and eggs, fold in, add the almonds and baking powder, fold in. In stages fold in the egg whites then add any nuts or additions. Put into muffin cases and bake for 20 mins-ish on 170 deg (fan oven).
Yummy with cream/cream and berries.
I've made this as a cake (6" round tin) using 75g and 3 small eggs, split in the middle and sandwiched with whipped cream and raspberries. Toooooo yummy!
This recipe is now on recipe list on page 1 of this threadSounds just too good to miss :j

If they don't have health problems and aren't obese, is it wise to put children on a low-carb diet?
I too concur.
Children are growing so fast and use up so much if they are active. OK, limit MaccyD's, get more veg in thereBut potatoes aren't the enemy. Neither is pasta. Or bread.
My sister's view on her growing boys was 'if you know they are getting the right amount of vitamins and minerals from the food you feed them then other stuff isn't that important'
They have grown into strong, healthy and intelligent adults. Both are tall and quite well built in the healthy way.
If you make foods outlawed they will stuff themselves at every available opportunity when you aren't there. This idea of low carb children can be unhealthy for them later when they learn quite what was kept from them - and how good it tastes.
Maybe everything in moderation should work here?

In 2010 I had to go see a DSN (Diabetes specialist nurse) because my BG wasn't good . I had only recently switched from low GI to low carb and although I was making improvements my GP was worried.
Very nice woman, but she would keep telling me to eat carbs. I remember her telling me that one of her patients was a bodybuilder who ate loads of protein and his BG numbers just kept going up. This was supposed to convince me low carbing was a bad idea.
I have been clearing up paper in my study and found the freebie home monitoring diary from a pharma, which she gave to me. It had her office number in it.
I was just naughty, I left a message on her answering machine telling her my name, what my BG is now, that my waist is only two inches more than that of my slim husband (she met him) and though I knew she didn't approve of low carb that's how I'd done it.:j:cool::rotfl:< Edwardia being very smug.

Well back in't day when I was small I ate everything my Mum gave me. Neither me nor sis were fussy eaters. We had carrots for snacks - I used to love nibbling the outer bits off and saving the specially sweet 'tree' inside to the end. :rotfl:
Raw carrots were a treat you looked forward to
But back in the day was 40 years ago and Mum was there to cook all our food from scratch every dayThen there weren't all the foods imported, you ate seasonally from local produce.
Maybe that is the way to go?
I try now to do that very thing and I think it's part of the low carb thing too.
Keep it simple and tasty.
I do realise that the outside influences affect children at ever younger ages but if introduced early enough good food can still be really enjoyed by littles.

It is harder to balance nuitrients when you are low carbing, especially pottasium and Vit D in my case, so maybe we should just try to encourage children to eat less sweets and crisps and eat more nuts, seeds and vegetables. It is a start towards eating healthily.
Edwardia - you are getting cheekier by the minute!!0 -
