Lloyds Credit Card Charges. Refund! HELP ME!

Options
Hello

I have a friend who has a Lloyds credit card and has received plenty of charges late payments mainly I think. I wanted to know if its true ( as read on this site ) that you can sue Lloyds for charging unreasonable fees. I'm not sure how far you can go back - any ideas?

Or exactly how this works.

Is this the best source of info?

I don't know if unreasonable or what others on this site term as 'overly punitive fees' can be dealt with in the same way as many are tackling unreasonable bank charges on current accounts. I know you probably have but on the baking and current accounts board there are a number of threads (withsamle letters) and a number of MSE members who are expert in this area (DC church is one I remember) and I think he/she has something to do with the site you mention or one similar. On how far you can take it back I am not sure but I believe you can request statements for the past 6 years. Now wether this is credit cards or bank accounts, I don't know. anyway I am sure the help is outhere
  • I am in the same position. I have used the sample letter to request the last 6 year's worth of statements for a credit card and a store card with the intention of getting charges refunded. Someone (I can'tremember who) said the same principles apply to claiming back bank charges so I just made a few adjustments with the wording and am sitting here, fingers crossed hoping!
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
  • Any of the fees the OP mentions are punitive and can therefore be recovered. Another site worth looking at is https://www.bankactiongroup.com where there is a library section that gives all the letters you require.

    Hope this helps

I'm going to write demanding them to refund some interest since I've always used my accounts within the terms and conditions and stayed organised with payments to all of my accounts over the past 6 years. If people who arent organised enough to maintain their accounts properly can get their money back, they should do the same for people like me.

    Good luck!

Something tells me I'm not going to be running around with a smile like I've won the World Cup like the people who have incurred lots of fees for not bothering to managing their finances properly.
  • The Boss - You would, I think, be correct in your assumption. However if charges that are applied are unlawful and a breach of the Unfair Tems (Contracts) Act, does it not seem right and proper that these charges be refunded? With increasing regularity banks and other institutions apply these charges causing people financial misery and setting them on a downward spiral to debt. It is not simply a case of not bothering to manage one's finances properly, these 'ad terorem' charges are just a lucrative money making scheme, are unlawful, in breach of consumer regulations and you support them?

So in other words : there should be no deterrent to stop people making late payments. They should just be able to decide when they pay and then go over their agreed credit limit if they want to?

The deterrent should be proportionate and not excessive nor punitive. It should reflect the true cost or loss and not be purely a money making scheme. Have you seen the profits banks are declaring?
