What benefits will she be due?????

My wife has been working part time for the last 15 months.
She has been doing 2 days a week with a pro rata salary of £13500.
She is about to be made redundant and we were wondering what benefits she might be entitiled to. I know she probably isn't entitled to any redundancy pay but we want to know if she can claim JSA and is it pro rataed to the days she worked.
many thanks

HI Golfer
I just wanted to say hi - I am in the same situation, I have been working par time for just over two years and I have been told I am being made redundant imminently.
JSA does not look at how many hours you worked, only what work you will be seeking, as far as I know its the same amount for each person regardless of what hours they previously worked. I am seeking part time work eventually as I have one child at school and one at nursery and it would cost more than I would get paid to get childcare for both unless I suddenly qualified overnight as a doctor or something lol
I phone the Employment Service yesterday to ask about benefits, I was horrified by the persons attitude on the phone, I wasnt making a claim and simply wanted to ask a few questions, the woman was so rude and patronising. I have worked since leaving school so I believe I will be entitled to Contribution based JSA and or possibly income support, the JSA is about 60 quid every two weeks. If you get tax credits these will go up too I think. I had some time off sick when preg with our second daughter and went on stat sick pay and the tax credits went up so hopefully this will be the case.
Good luck to you and your wife, I am hoping to do some short courses to improve my employability.
Does anyone know if you can get the Mortgage Interest paid if you are also recieving Payment Protection from your insurance policy ?
We can claim half of our mortgage payment which will still leave us with over 50% to find ourselves with only one income now and am a bit concerned.
Any help with this would be great
Thanks to all who help out on this board

It is £60.50 per week.
Please check your information before misleading people.
OP, how much does your wife earn per week? Assuming that you work full time, she will need to have paid sufficient NI Conts in the past two years.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Sorry I wasnt misleading anyone, I was told this by the Jobcentre, I dont appreciate your attitude, I was trying to help and it was not my fault I was misinformed by the moron at the Employment service - jeez

she earns £103.85 but i dont think she pays any tax or NIC
So does this mean that she wont be able to make any sort of claim.
Thanks

Krsnoludek,If you have payment protection then surely it is for the full amount of the mortgage? Everyone I know who does it is set to cover the whole amount should either party be unemployed/sick.I think it's a question on the form but wouldn't have thought you could claim both but not sure.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

If she does not pay NI then she will not be eligible for Conts based JSA.
Depending on your income and whether you have children, it may be possible to claim Tax Credits, and possibly help with your rent and council tax (though you would need to be on a very low income for these).
If you enter some figures into www.entitledto.co.uk, this should give you an estimate.Gone ... or have I?0 -

I earn in the region of £32k
So realistically there will be nothing she can claim, maybe our tax credits will go up but we are on the basic at present so probably not.
Looks like the only option will be to find some part time work very soon.
thanks anyhow

Hi there
The payment protection is for 50% of the mortgage as there are two people on the policy, both me and my husband with a 50% cover each, our mortgage will still be about £400 short per month even after the protection so we will still have to find this amount.
When I phoned up the mortgage provider this morning they asked for my bank account number in case the amount they pay is surplus to requirements, ie the government are paying the interest and the payment protection is repaying the capital.
In any case, the protection is only for 12 months so if I dont find a job within the next 12 months the protection will cease
