Halifax Charges Unfair

I have a halifax account which my mortgage and a 3 other direct debits come out of on the 1st of the month.
This month the 1st was a sunday so i went into the bank first thing tuesday morning and pad X ammount of money in cash as i always do to cover all of my outgoings.
I have a charge on my account of £105 3 x £35 for my direct debits which apparently come out between 12 midnight and 4am so when i paid in the money to cover it they had already paid the direct debits and chardged me £35 per direct debit.
I also have an account with lloyds and hsbc and with both of them if your bank goes in debit and yo upay money in the same day it does not charge!
So now im £86 overdrawn
I should have paid it in on the friday but i didnt get paid until the saturday
Has anyone else experience this? Is there anything i can do?

Well you were overdrawn for a whole day ... as the 1st was a Sunday, direct debits will come out in the early hours on Monday morning. You were then overdrawn for the whole of Monday, and into Tuesday morning before you paid more money in, so you would expect to be charged.
The Halifax Reward current account allows you to pay money in up until the very end of the day that payments came out (i.e. until late Monday night in your case) without being charged, which is actually more than many other banks, who have a mid-afternoon cut-off.0 -
Actually sorry thats wrong i went in on the monday morning and paid the money in. Got my days confused! duh0

Well in that case you would need to weigh up whether it's more beneficial to switch to the Reward account, which means you have until late that night to cover any payments that you have already made, and get £5 after tax paid to you for each month that you pay in £1k. If you do however still go over your limit for one day, the maximum charge you will get is £5.
But ... if you do live in your overdraft all month, you may find that the overdraft charges are quite steep.0 -
Yep im always in my overdraft, probably wouldnt work for me. thanks for the option.
I normally dont have a problem with halifax, im trying my hardest every month to have my finances in place but am self employed so its not as easy as being paid a fixed salary every month on the same day.0
