Ryanair 'Excess' Baggage Charge

Please be aware that RyanAir are now strictly imposing thier 15kg per person limit on luggage to be placed in the hold with no allowance to pool travelling companions' allowances. Excess charge is £5.50 per kilo. On a recent trip to Rome, a couple travelling with us were charged excess for one bag weighing 20kg even though they had no hand luggage (max 10kg each) and were, therefore, actually 30kg below their actual overall weight limit.

Why is this a scam? If you are told in advance and they are not hiding any of the charges, what is the issue?

If you don't like Ryanair, no-one is asking you to fly with them.

I agree it can hardly be a scam if you know about it in advance.
Last year when checking in at Reus for our return flight, both of us were over the 15kg limit and were asked to pay an excess.(along with others I might add)
I asked the girl if it was alright to transfer some articles from our cases to our hand luggage and she said no problem,so no excess was charged.

When people book flights with the "low costs" do they bother too read the T&C`s
    I don`t think so.
Every week on the Easyjet TV prog, they blame everyone and everything except themselves.(late at check-in,forgot passport, held up on motorway, etc.)

Very simply turn up on time, with the correct luggage weight, and bring your own food and drink.
As Ryanair`s boss says, what do you expect for a penny a ticket!

BUT ticket prices have been reduced by 9% - about £2.50 (so they say!)

If you check their T&Cs you'll find that you can't pool luggage so I can't see how it's a scam

As I always say if you don't want to get a shock follow Ryanair's rules to the letter because as soon as you step beyond them you get stuffed.

    Yes , you are right,
I got told this my last successfull 99p ryanair trip to Murcia by the checkin staff. (luckily we were all right)
Thinking about it, ryanair fly 40 MILLION passengers. I think its a numbers game they play. Imagine each passenger spends 5 GBP (average) (not hard with booze ,food, scratch cards, excess baggage etc etc) thats 200 MILLION POUNDS.
Not to mention the affiliate earnings from insurance, hotels, car hire, airport transfers.(probably another 200 million)
The secret is- stick to the t&cs. Hand luggage only= priority boarding (remember you are allowed 10kg) or pay 2.50 GPB (see my sig- why its GBP-HELP) at booking and get a total of 30 KG allowance. Not a bad deal for a fortnights hols (my wife and daughter normaly carry 10KG each in shoes for a fortnight)

The info is there on ryanair site. They will fly you for 99p (+tax+charges) but as long as you are aware of the rules ,thats all you will spend.

I got rattled for 45 euro a couple of years ago at GIRONA. To be honest, we could have spread it on our hand luggage and been ok.
We just didnt think about it.
    Wont happen again
