A & L interest rates

I've just received my new statement from A & L and noticed that the interest rates quoted have gone up quite a lot from last month. The monthly rates were 1.5626% for BT/purchases and 1.7366% for cash. The rate is now 1.8735% for everything. Fortunately I have just transferred the balance to a 0% card anyway, but shouldn't they have notified me or something. I am going to close the account now as even the old rate was high but do you think it is because i've cleared the balance that they've increased the rate? Sneaky (but pointless in this case) if they are now waiting for me to spend on it.

If it happened before i was using this site I might not even have noticed it!!

A change in rates must be notified in writing - it may be in the small print on a prevous statement.
