First of all, do you know whether you are on a static IP Address (one that never changes) or a Dynamic IP Address? (One that changes every time you connect)
If you are on a Dynamic Address then disconnecting your broadband modem/router (presuming you have broadband) or disconnecting your dial-up modem, waiting a few seconds then reconnecting will give you a different IP Address.
If you are using a static IP then these can't usually be changed. You could try contacting your ISP and asking them, some will renew it and change it, others won't.
Try doing the steps in the dynamic IP address first, and if that doesn't change your IP Address, you most likely have a static IP.
Hope this helps

It sounds like you are on a static IP address then. The only way you can get it changed is by contacting AOL and requesting that they change it for you. I'm not sure whether they will do this but its worth a try.bamberbamboo wrote:just unplugged my 'aol bt voyager 105' left it for a while then plugged it back an but no luck, anything else I could try?
Is there a specific reason why you need to change your IP Address?

Most internet users are set up with dynamic IP addresses. Their ISPs assign them an IP address when they connect/log in. Most ISPs offer a static IP address for an extra fee, but I can't see why you would want one unless you run some sort of server from your PC - this also significantly increases the risk of your computer being 'attacked' in the long term as your IP address is fixed and doesn't change everytime you log on.0

sometimes i get the same IPaddress after disconecting and reconnecting a few mins later. to be 100% sure wether you have dynamic or static, leave you PC disconnected for a few hours or overnight and it should change if its dynamic0

I've never had any experience with AOL so I'm not sure whether this is the case. Whenever I disconnect and reconnect I always get a new IP Address but it could be that AOL's DHCP doesn't update until early in the morning so any reconnects throughout the day and you get the same IP Address.skiddy2k wrote:sometimes i get the same IPaddress after disconecting and reconnecting a few mins later. to be 100% sure wether you have dynamic or static, leave you PC disconnected for a few hours or overnight and it should change if its dynamic0 -
Not sure if AOL gives you static addressed or not.
But what you can easily do is use a proxy to mask your IP with the one from the proxy.
Using chains of them in special program you also obtain great speeds.0 -
