Hello everyone,
How high/low have saving interest rates got? In the last century I guess...

I had a Tessa for a short while with the now defunct Leamington Spa Building Society - interest rate was 15%

my memory (not the most reliable) but as a kid I was getting 13% with the co-op, that was around 20 years ago when I was in my early teens and started to get financially savy about spreading money around accounts.

The lowest ever interest rate since the Bank of England was founded in 1694 is right now. The previous record was 2%.

Yep - I know its difficult for first time buyers lately but this thread reminds me that in 1978/9 mortgage interest rates were 15% (for certain) ! And I think you could get 10% on cash deposits in 1998 (from memory)...

Actually the previous record was about 3 weeks ago when base rate was 1%.
