Horrendous Winter bill - Southern Electric
Options
Hi,
My electricity bill for the winter - Nov 14th to Jan 28th came to £720.
Four people share the flat. There is no gas and so everthing runs on electric including the gas filled electric heaters (2kw!!!!) Obviously, given the winter we had, the heating bill was much higher than normal.
The bill read thus:
Day: 3699 - 14.95p/unit
Night: 1864 - 6.79/unit
£720 for 10 wks (take off a week for Xmas - everyone was away).
Obviously, we're concerned about this. Indeed, does this sound right?
Also, how can I know if someone else is tapping my supply (like a neighbour for example).

All electric heating is expensive. You're using quite a bit at night. Does that mean you have storage heaters as well as plug in heaters?0
-
How often do you have your heating running?0

Yes, I thought the night rate was high too. The reason is probably that people were running their heaters at night when they shouldn't have been.0

If you're using that much heating, and using Economy 7 (premium rate electricity for 17 hours a day), you're going to have high bills. It's you lot using the energy, not your neighbours!0

you need to talk to one another and find out if this has happened? If so, it needs to be nipped in the bud. No need for heating on during the night. Perhaps they also need to be a bit more savvy on energy consumption0
