y visit to Primark today - Please help, I don't know my rights :-(

Hi all,

I am a newbie (first post and all) so hello!

I am in a panic / upset. I had to buy some clothes and I'm on a budget so I do shop at Primark. On my visit today I had four items but at the till I was charged for five - the lady scanned my jeans twice, but I hadn't realised this as I was rooting in my bag for my purse and only realised when I had left the store and got home.

Is it worth going to Primark tomorrow and explaining what happened or is my doomed feeling correct in that because there's a loophole for people scamming the stores that they won't believe my mistake? I am an honest person and this was my ditsy £7.83 mistake - to me that's a lot of money! :(

  • You can only try. There may well be cameras covering the till area to prove that you only had one pair of jeans with you at the till. Good luck

Thank you. I'll go back. I really wouldn't notice being overcharged - long story on that!- but yes I have the receipt, in fact I hadn't even unpacked the bag I only had a chance to check the receipt now and saw there was a double charge.
  • I'd go back, I can't see them doing stock checks or anything like that but it's got to be worth a try. make sure you're ultra nice to the assistant....yep I know it was their fault, but if you go in shouting they will just refuse;)

I would never shout and it's my fault isn't it. I just feel really stupid and out of pocket :(
  • Sorry didn't mean it to sound like you would be rude to the staff :o Its not your fault though, the assistant should have noticed it had scanned twice. Those scanner things can be very sensitive.

No it is not your fault for the overcharge, you are only guilty of not checking your receipt. Don't tell Primark it is your fault, just state the facts- you brought one pair of jeans and were charged for two. Should be simple and straightforward. I would be very surprised if they did not give you your money back. Remember to take your credit/debit card with you if you paid for it with a card. Look and sound genuinely devasted by the error (which you are!!!). And don't take no for an answer. Ask for a manager if you don't get anywhere with the CS. Remain calm and collected.

    Good Luck!
