Removing my name from joint account!

Hi all, hope someone can shed some light on this.
I had moved to England (from Scotland) to live with my partner, we decided to have a joint account from which to pay bills from. He set an account up with Lloyds Tsb in his name then we both went into his local branch and he (we) signed an agreement to add my name to it.
He had online access to this account through internet banking so i had said about adding a small overdraft incase we ran short. He then upped this as he needed to pay some bill of his own (i wasnt overly happy about this but figured it was ok as he would pay it back as he gets paid weekly)
The problem is that we have now split up and he told me that he upped the overdraft yet again (without my consent) as he was finding it a bit tight paying bills without me contributing anymore. I lost my pin number and dont have access to the account to check how much in debt this account is. My friend had told me that as long as the account is in debt my name cannot be removed. It was thought that we would get back together and he had said it was his responibilty so he would pay it all back so i didnt contact the bank immediately.
Now there is no chance of a reconciliation i am trying to get all my paperwork sorted out. I am stressed out about the debt in this account as my name is linked to it. I need to write to the bank to try and sort it out but not sure where to start. Is it possible to have my name removed as he had agreed he would want this to happen or is my friend right. If she is right do i write to them explaining the situation and can i get a bar to stop the overdraft being raised again and get my address changed on it to keep me informed.
Please help!!
Regards

If he goes into branch and agrees to remove your name then they might do it - but usually you are both liable for the debt
You need to go and tell them that the account is in 'dispute' this will stop him racking up more debt
Also the account will affect your credit rating
I don't think you can have 2 addresses on it - ask them for an internet login0 -
I doubt they'll allow you to remove your name, even with the other party's consent - however, what 456789 says about a dispute is entirely correct. You can do it now, over the phone, calling Lloyds (0845 3000000). No need for any details, just advise them that the account is in dispute.0
