Parking Ticket Issued By Police

Hi all,
Received a parking ticket on Sunday ,i was parked on double yellow lines ,car rear wheels was on the lines. What has annoyed me is the fact i just stopped outside mum in laws house (in side street) to pick kids up.I went back to the car and a ticket had been issued .The ticket stated i was parked on there between 17.55 -18.00.
The time was 18.00 no police officer in site.I was only at mil house for 5 mins which is directly opposite car.I phoned police staion at 18.00 speaking to a nice lady who said i would need to put this in writing. Also there were (and always) cars all parked on the pavement on the main road,i asked the lady this and she said as long as there are no double yellow lines they can park there. Is this worth sending letter to try to get the fine quashed.

I didn't think Police issued such tickets, thought it had been passed to council and parking attendants to enforcement such things now?

And depends what the ticket is for. The OP hasn't said what the ticket says.

Its a coincidence that all these people that get parking fines have just left their car for literally 5 minutes. I think the OP makes it clear that the offence was a double yellow line. The fine could, however, have been for parking inconsiderately. For example, was it a narrow street and you double parked? I were getting back in my car one day from the shops and a policeman walking past asked me if I could in future not park over the top of a lowered curb because they are there for pushchairs etc to get down. If the offence was for the double yellow I would be surprised.

People really do stop briefly and get penalised all the time. CCTV enforcement is particularly abused with people stopping in ermergencies or seen to clearly be loading having instant PCNs issued. I take what people say at face value. In the unlikely event anyone is being dishonest it will be their problem eventually.
Yes - such actions of a Policeman were the norm under criminal enforcement: A friendly word of advice. According to DfT Guidance the same is supposed to apply to Council CEOs operating the decriminalised system. Instead we are just swelling the Council coffers.

Presumably your eyebrows are now raised! LOL.

The significance being that in an area of Civil Parking Enforcement the police can only issue for obstruction - similar to situations you described. Not, as here, for a yellow line offence.

As we don't know which Council area this is, albeit we know the County, then we don't know what system applies.
