Not happy with quality of carpet???

I bought a new liviing room carpet from a local General George in September so it is only 6 months old. However I am really unhappy with the quality of it, its difficult to describe but I can see loads of white threads coming up through the brown of the carpet as if they are unravelling
Can I do anything about this or is it too late?

Have you tried talking to them about it, it should be under guarantee. Was it a very cheap carpet?0

It cost me over 500 pounds including fitting0

you should first ask the shop manager to come and take a look at the problem, if he thinks there may be a fault with the carpet he can then ask the manufacturer to send a rep to look at the carpet.he may ask what sort of vacum you use on it.dont tell him you use a dyson type with a spinning brush even if you do.its there usual reason to refuse replacement.if they still refuse to replace carpet you can ask for an independent body http://www.carpetinspector.com/ to help0

I run a flooring business in the West Midlands. Your contract is with the retailer. I agree with Foxy - ask the retailer to inspect the carpet and raise a complaint with the manufacturer. The manufacturer will then normally arrange an inspection. Under the Sale of Goods Act you should expect a carpet of 'merchantable quality' and one that was 'fit for purpose' to last (or at least keep it's appearance) for longer than 6 months.
If it's a loop pile carpet you should never use an upright vacuum cleaner with beater bar. You should always use a cylinder suction only cleaner. It normally says this on the back of the carpet sample but people tend to miss it.
If it's a twist pile, velvet or similar it doesn't matter what type of cleaner you use.0 -
Can fully back up the above...I used to be a rep for a big flooring distributor, and my job involved inspecting carpet complaints in-situ. I can stress that we were most definitely fully impartial!
So the retailer should raise a complaint with their supplier, who should in turn inspect it. If the complaint is justified, the goods should be replaced!
At a vague guess, the complaint could be one of these
Over-laytex-ed backing: Too much latex adhesive in the carpets backing, penetrating the tufts,
Print-fault: This may happen if the carpet is a nylon print carpet. Some tufts may have not taken in the dye correctly, leaving white tufts, or white on the bottom half of the tufts,
Watch the guarantee: Some manufacturers 'guarantees' only cover wear and not appearance, however any carpet, no matter how cheap should last at least a year provided it has been fitted correctly and in the recommended locations. Good luckProfit=sanity
Turnover=vanity
