It has to be half a grapefruit -swedes, spuds, baguettes (did they have those in the 70s?), cabbages are just plain WRONG:D

I'm curious to know why you agreed to make something without asking what it was:confused:

I too have memories of parties back in the late 1970s when the highlight on the table of a buffte was a white cabbage covered in foil surrounded by pineapple chunks and cheese chunks skewered on cocktail sticks into the resulting ball. I always got one of the kids to do it as it kept them quiet whilst I made the other bits. Another thing was a cocktail sausage with a stick through it and a thin slice of cucumber like a sail stuck in the middle it made a plate look like a plate of small sailing boats. Those were the days of wearing long frocks (usually brown and orage for some unknown reason) and Matues Rose or Leibfraumilch to drink. Black Forest gateau from the freezer shop( Bejams) that never seemed to quite thaw out in time and plates of prawns soaked in pink sea-food mayo, and piles of sausage rolls God we knew how to party in those days, lol.

We had a 'hedgehog' at a party that I went to last week - everybody was full of 'awwwws' and there was absolutely nothing left of it at the end. (cheese/silverskin; cheese/pineapple; saus/silverskin; saus/pineapple; cheese/cherry toms)
