Garden Leave, Risk of Redundancy

I just had a phone call from my boss this morning, saying that i am on garden leave and i have a consultation on thursday as there may be a risk of me being made redundant.

I am on there with four other people, but I dont understand how they could make me redundent as we have work, and are sub-contracting it out? so surly just get rid of the subbies then we will have work?

Any advice, like if this is enough time or what would be a great help.

I have been working there just over 5 years.

Yes, they can make people redundant if they are reorganising the way the work is done. It doesn't necessarily have to be a diminishment of the whole amount of work. If they are subcontracting work out, they may have decided that their business strategy will be to subcontract in future and have only a tiny in house presence, or none at all.

The consultation meeting is your opportunity to ask questions. Take someone with you, if you can, because you will likely be too shell shocked to ask all you want to and to question them further.

Yeah I think the same. I was going to take another work employee in with me.

Any particular questions you might ask? I am still in abit of state of shock!
