Flight to Australia at Christmas

We want to fly to Sydney literally on Christmas day or Boxing day and return about 10 weeks later. We have been told that we might get a bargain as few people want to travel on these dates.

So far we have not seen any 'bargains'. Does anyone have any experience of doing this or advice on when / how to get a good deal.

The evening flights on the 24th December can be cheaper as well.

You say you haven't seen any bargains, but have you actually checked the prices of flying 24/25/25 Dec against either before or after these dates?

I should imagine that flying anywhere at Christmas time is always expensive but if you can fly on on the above dates, you may find that these are cheaper than (although still expensive) dates either side.

Worked for me last Christmas (not to Australia though).

Flights to OZ will be expensive regardless of one day either side of Xmas day. I suggest you get looking now and get the seats booked as the closer you get the higher the fares are likely to be. Your gonna have more choices of airlines and routes doing it in advance

As incapuppy says we dont know what prices you have found so you might have a bargain already

    Good Luck

The only 'cheaper' flight at present is with Cathay Pacific at around £830. Everthing else (at least with airlines I am happy to go with!) is close to £1000. I know it's a pricey time of year but hoping for some credit crunch offers to come through.

I'm no expert but for a flight at Christmas to the other side of the world, that sounds pretty darn good to me.

£830 is an absolute bargain for the time of year, I doubt that could be bettered, and £1000 is very good as well.

I'm glad someone else thinks so too!

OP - I think perhaps your expectations are a little unrealistic.

Thanks all for the feedback - it's helped a lot.
