I know it's not the end of the world - i am healthy, have a beautiful and supportive family but now that I have had my redundancy confirmed I feel sad. It will be good to spend some time with the kiddies though......

Hi there
I was in the same boat two months ago. I wrote a post titled "Redundancy my story" so have a look for it.
I have had good days and bad days but many more good days.
Are you going to go to the job centre to sign on for benefits?
There are many of us in your situation and I know at first you take it personally and feel like you have failed but please dont. It is their loss after all and you will go on to bigger and better things.
This board has helped me and hopefully it will help you to0 -
It is like a kick in the teeth when it happens to you and do have to take time to lick your wounds but you do pick yourself up, rather than seeing as one door shutting try to think of it as a new opportunity, maybe a chance for you to do something that you have always wanted to do.
Good luck.0 -
Its the job that has been made redundant not you. I think its because work is such a huge part of your life it take time to readjust - I've just been given notice of redundancy - its a horrible shock and you do tend to take it personally but remember you have many skills which made you employable before and you still have them0

It's an awful time, I feel for you. It's so easy to feel a failure, but this is a new and different world we look in. There's a lot of people in the same boat, and none of it is our fault. Just Gordon's and the bankers. Chin up, and remember how well you've done in your job, and that there will be jobs out there again.0

Looks like I'll be told tomorrow that I'll be made redundant, been through the consultation process and I have my final meeting tomorrow.
I'm quite upbeat about it, it's going to make me do something else. I look at it as a new start.
I did feel pretty down about it originally, I have to admit, so I do feel for the OPNothing can compareTo when you roll the dice and swear your love's for me0 -
Thanks for all the kind messages, I really appreciate it.
Not sure about benefits etc. I will have the summer off with the kids and then perhaps look at retraining, maybe start a college course in September?
Always fancied being a Paramedic - is early 40's too old? At least I have a few weeks to investigate properly.
Thanks again:o0 -

I'm early 40's and fancy a complete change as well.....i don't think you are too old to become a paramedic.
I was looking at teacher training!!Nothing can compareTo when you roll the dice and swear your love's for me0 -
I was given the same new yesterday, and know what you feel about feeling down.
Best way to look at it is youve not got a terminal illness, its just a sign of the times. Look at the positives - family etc. Its a chance for a new start. Chin up!0 -
