Continued estimated electricity

About 18 months ago, I changed from British Gas to EON and my meter was never read at the time. British Gas admitted that they had no idea what the actual consumption was and acceptred two thirds of what they claimed was owed. On change over EON continued to estimate the consuption and has done so ever since, so I am in the same position as before. EON have just asked me to read the meter, which of course, I can do, but their starting figure is a shot in the dark. What do you experts advise me to do now please ?

    Hi jstvj

As you have come over to E.ON from another supplier, the opening reading should be the same as British Gas closed your account to. You can check this on your final bill from them and ask E.ON what they have as your start reads.

Usually the gaining supplier will estimate the reading if they have not been provided with one, this is then passed to the losing supplier to close your account to.

If the reads do not match between suppliers, raise this with E.ON and ask for the readings to be re-agreed (this kind of dispute is called and ARD).

    Hope this helps :)
