    Hi Francesanne

She can claim Attendance Allowance if she has a condition that makes it difficult for her to be as mobile as she previously was or if she needs more care than she previously did. they will also look at how her needs/mobility are affected in the day time and the night time.

I have helped people to get Attendance Allowance as they have high blood pressure which leaves them out of breath if they walk too far and if they have been left wekaer than they were due to illnesses, so for instance, if they now find it more difficult to get out of a chair or get out of bed then they did previously.

    Hope that helps.
Wonder if you could offer some help as you sound very helpful and knowledgeable? My elderly Mum is suffering from very bad depression & anxiety. She's been under the care of the hospital for the last year and her situation has gone from bad to worse. She's on very powerful drugs plus she visits a therapist weekly, she also has other health issues. It was suggested she would be entitled to Attendance Allowance and I rang to request the relevant forms yesterday. Would her Council Tax benefit be affected if she was awarded attendance allowance? I've tried calling council and can never get through. She receives approx. £15.50 per week council tax benefit. Many thanks for any advice you can offer. Finding all this very daunting.

Her council tax benefit would be affected if she got AA, but only in a good way;). Unless she is already getting full council tax benefit, she would end up getting more than she is now.
If you're finding all this daunting, you might want to get help (from welfare rights or CAB) for your mum in filling in the form as there is definitely a technique to it.
