    Ok first things first.
Get your friend to tell you their soa details and then with permission post it.

Can she ring any of the card companies and ask for a better interest rate. They will probably say no but 1% off could help out.

to be honest they probably will stop the use of that credit card if she lowers the payment - she could ask them not to, but credit card companies being what they are they may ask her to cut the card up.

has she made a claim for pension credit - tel no is 0800 99 1234 to make a claim from the Pension Service, it could help to increase her income and if she received it she may get housing benefit (if she rents) or some council tax benefit.

Does she have any illnesses or medical conditions at all - if she does then she could make a claim for Disability Living Allowance (if under 65) or Attendance Allowance (if over 65). She'd need to ring the benefits enquiry line to order an application form and if she needs help completing it she can go to her local CAB or Help the Aged and they can help her fill it in.

If you or her want to look at more info on DLA or Attendance Allowace you can click on this link - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/FinancialSupport/DG_10011731

the benefits enquiry line number is:

    Call the Benefit Enquiry Line

This is a confidential freephone service for disabled people and carers. You can call the Benefit Enquiry Line and ask them to send you a claim pack. They can send you the claim pack in an alternative format if required - for example, Braille.
They can also arrange for someone to help you fill out the form if required. Please note that the person you speak to may need to arrange for someone to phone you back.

are the other 2 c/c companies part of the same group as the one she pays £15pm to? If not I think they'd be hard pressed to find out that she has this one credit card. I can't see how they would be able to get the one credit card stopped to be honest - it'd be a commercial decision for the £15pm credit card company and there is no way that they could do anything to influence this other company.

if your friend made an application for DLA more than six months ago, then she is entitled to make another claim for it - as she is on pension credit she would get help from a benefits specialist at a CAB as she is legally adiable, so she might want to go to them to help with filling in the DLA form.

thank you so much earplugs :T
l will check what cards belong to who and see if they are part of the same group

as for her dla l think shes been given the impression that now shes offically of retirement age and not already recieving dla then she cannot apply for it again ?? seems a bit mad to me:confused: if you have a disability + qualify then it should,nt matter what age you are

she can apply for it as many times as she likes at whatever age she likes!, as long as she leaves it 6 months between applications.

if she is under 65 then she should claim DLA, if she is over 65 she needs to claim Attendance Allowance.

I'd go for it again, just my opinion though!

On what grounds can she claim Attendance Allowance? Don't you need a serious health problem to be able to claim? I know very little about the benefits system and find it very confusing.

    Hi Francesanne

She can claim Attendance Allowance if she has a condition that makes it difficult for her to be as mobile as she previously was or if she needs more care than she previously did. they will also look at how her needs/mobility are affected in the day time and the night time.

I have helped people to get Attendance Allowance as they have high blood pressure which leaves them out of breath if they walk too far and if they have been left wekaer than they were due to illnesses, so for instance, if they now find it more difficult to get out of a chair or get out of bed then they did previously.

    Hope that helps.
