Cleaning Electric Oven Element

I've just finished cleaning our electric oven with one of the Oven Prid kits. I used it on the racks, sides, base and door.
The top of the oven could do with a real good clean aswell but I'm not happy about going near the heating element situated there. I'm sure that the mess on the top is the cause of the smell when you open the door!
Does anyone know of how to clean this section of the oven without damaging the element? I've followed the oven prid guide by not using this on it so I'm trying to find an alternative to that

oven pride is wonderful .
But for the elements , I just turn full on and burn the crud off.
Open oven door, open kitchen door, turn off smoke alarm
( before health /safety brigade steam in ) if you like afterwards
turn alarm back on ........ you would have, but someone would insist on telling you!0 -

What about the top of the ovn (behind the element)? That is REALLY baked on and could do with sorting somehow.
Any ideas?Apparently I am the original tight fisted Yorkshire Man!!0 -

You have cleaned the sides/ shelves and elements
The top of the oven is out of sight...... out of mind, get a life.
To be honest you already got the gold star.0 -

It's not a case of the top of the oven being out of sight. I too have an electric oven and understand where the OP is coming from really. In my case it's bacon fat spitting upwards onto the element. I don't see how it can be cleaned off but boy does it stink sometimes when the grill is used or the oven is on high (mine is a single oven/grill). What makes it worse is that I'm a non-meat eater, it's hubby's bacon but the smell of hot bacon fat when the grill comes on for toast etc. makes me feel sick.
I'm with you OP, if you find a way then let me know!0 -
i've been thinking about getting some oven pride after seeing the adverts, but wasn't sure if it really would work? would you recommend it?
not sure about the element, our bottom oven./grill is the same, i daren't put anything near it thoughtotally a tog!:D0 -
Worth buying oven pride , just to clean the removable shelves.
Stick in bag , with some oven pride, I take to garden, incase of leaks
Turn over every 20 mins or ( when I remember), then just rinse.
Only cleaning product that I would endorse.0 -
Oven Pride is good stuff. I have cleaned the heating element and behind it in my electric oven with the stuff and said oven is still working fine. Just dabbed it on using a non-stick scourer, left to soak, then poked the scourer around behind the element as best I could. Rinse super well cos you don't want residual chemicals falling in your food or the stink of it next time you cook.
I can't use the burn-it-off trick as I live in a flat over a busy city street, with a hard-wired in alarm system throughout the building. If the alarm didn't go off, I'd like to think someone would dial 999. Suspect I would have to explain to the fire brigade! Actually that's not a bad idea .....Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
This was my first time using oven pride. My wife has used it before and always has one in stock for when we want to clean it.
I put the solution on the sides and bottom of the oven first thing yesterday morning, making sure I put plenty on due to their being alot of baked on liquid stuck to them. Once I had been over them two or three times with the solution, I then run the cloth over my removable racks and grill pan before placing them in the bag. I then poured the rest of the bottle into the bag, sealed it up and tilted the bag to make sure all the bitswere coated. They were then left in the outhouse for 24hours, just like the solution on the oven.
This morning I cleaned the racking first in a sink of hot water. It didn't take half as much elbow grease to bring them up like new!
The sides of the oven look 200 times better than they did , just a few specs of burnt on fat that coldn't be shifted with a brillo pad ( I was getting tired at this point!).
I think the key is to leave the Oven Pride solution on the parts being cleaned for a good few hours i.e. overnight at least. This will give it plenty of time to work.Apparently I am the original tight fisted Yorkshire Man!!0 -
I've used Oven Pride with good results.
Like other posters, I put the bag with racks in it outside in case of leaks (whole lot it a big seed tray in greenhouse)
This is important because the solution is Caustic Soda and if it gets out will strip varnish and damage aluminium (Caustic Soda reacts with Aluminium to give off hydrogen gas.)0 -
thanks for the info, i have seen oven pride liquid in my local supermarket, but i presume you can also buy it with the bags provided? i cant wait to get hold of it now! my job for the weekend i think:Ttotally a tog!:D0
