  • I too have a file with my favourite recipes in. But wouldn't leave behind Margeritte Patten step by step cookery and the readers Digest cookery year. The margeritte Patten is filthy. Probably a terrible health hazzard. This is the one I always check first.

Wowser thriftlady that is one heck of a lot of cookery books..lol

Not sure what books I would save as I had a cull recently and got rid of a few books to the charity shop. Yet saying that today I have literally just bought a book from Asda called "The Thrifty Cookbook - 476 ways to eat leftovers". It kind of called to me while I was walking past..lol

In no particular order but favourites highlighted in red and most useful underlined.

An impressive list, even if the vast majority of them have not been cooked from.

I'm a bit disappointed that you don't mention the most popular cook book ever written, the one more people own and that is actually used more than all the others put together!

It is probably one I don't like then:confused: Can you enlighten us?

Btw my collection is not intended as a reading list. Just because I like them doesn't mean everyone should go out and buy/borrow them. Wednesday evening OH was watching I Am Legend which I thought was rubbish so I thought I'd list my cookbooks instead -as you do when you're bored:D

I have a scary amount of cookery books to. I rarely if ever have cooked from them but that isn't why I buy them. I read them for inspiration and enjoyment ;)

    My faves are probably:
Nigella's Feast and possibly How to Eat
Bumper Student Cookbook by Cas Clarke
A couple of Marguerite Patten's including The Victory Cookbook and a budget one
A Taste of India by Madhur Jaffrey
Claudia Roden's Book of Jewish Food
Elizabeth David's English Bread and Yeast Cookery

I don't rate Delia much :o and altho I used to enjoy Nigel Slater's Sainsbury mag articles I don't get too over-excited by his books for some reason, even tho I own two (both bought for me as pressies by DH.)
Love and compassion to all x

 it was me who asked you for a list, & I'm really glad you put it up :)

I just counted mine, 80-odds, not as many as you thriftlady, but still
will try to list some later
  • I have just counted 160! All veggie and mostly vegan.

    The Vegetarian Times Cookbook

    Green Gastronomy
    The World in Your Kitchen
    and World Food Cafe cookbook

I have just had a clearout though and would miss any of the others.

You lot are awful you know...especially you Thriftlady ;):D Some of those look too interesting to bypass.
I don't dare count mine :o I go through phases of certain types of cooking/reading and I devour books usually in a day so suffice to say I have 'rather a few' :o
I have a 5 shelf bookcase in the front room which only contains my cookery collection
I have a thing for old books and recipes ATM a few of mine are circa 1900 and I also have a few civil war reprint ones which make fascinating reading, although a few of the recipes would probably kill you nowadays:rotfl:
  • Hi all:j

Been MIA this week as have had a lot of appointments etc. Now at last I have a day to catch up with housework etc.
Have been keeping up with the washing but have a pile of ironing to do later:rolleyes:
My seeds are sprouting well, tomatoes, peppers, chillies and courgettes.
I have planted my rhubarb, blackcurrants and raspberries and my garlic was planted ages ago and is coming on a treat!
Was at physio with DS yesterday and he managed finally at almost 6 years to ride a tricycle:T . She started him on dressing himself which he is clueless about and using a knife and fork( he uses hands and tries with a spoon at the mo).......am now on the hunt for a chunky knife and fork for him to practice with. He was not very co operative yesterday with her and kept flapping his hands and shouting "onion" in a Pingu type voice for some reason:confused: thank God they have seen it all before and don`t bat an eyelid.
He did the same thing at the dentist on Weds and the dentist looked quite terrified;)
Fairy Elephant sorry you are feeling down about it all. I don`t think it makes you an awful person to feel that way, it is natural. In a similar way I get annoyed at times at people who drink and God knows what else through their pregnancies and their babies are healthy, and I was prob over cautious when pregnant and DS has his problems.....it doesnt seem fair and after much soul searching I still don`t understand why it happens like that....hugs to you.
Halight sorry to hear about the new tumour, you have such an amazing positive attitude, hope it all turns out ok

hugs to anyone else feeling low at the moment

    xx
