Mrs E I find 'forever summer' (or whatever it's called) the one of Nigella's I use most, it's not just summer stuff but all about making you feel as happy as we do in summer (?!) If the turkey looked Ok to you, try it ? I just hated the thought of all that water but it's a good thing we are all different or the world would be a v boring place. I would suggest you avoid a thing she did last year which was little paper cases with some combination of peanut butter and chocolate - perhaps some shortbread too ? I made them to take to a party I went to (they are a copy of something you can get in the US) and I - and clearly all the other guests as no one ate them - thought they were disgusting, tho they looked pretty ! :rotfl:
I suddenly feel all Christmassy (have been feeling a bit Bah Humbug about it up to now. I wonder what did that !!0 -

They wouldn't last two minutes in this house! I made the tray bake version of those that's in Domestic Goddess. They were lovely, but we do like the American peanut butter cups too.0 -
I just added a pic of my favourite thrifty cookbooks if anyone is interested
Btw if you opt to watch the cookbook collection as a slideshow on flickr you can see all the titles close up.0 -

I hope and pray we never have to downsize because my OH is a real collector of cookery books and there's a right rumpus in this house whenever I suggest that some of them should be consigned to the charity shops. My favourites are not necessarily the big glossy expensive ones but small compendiums which I acquired about 40 years ago which hold comprehensive selections of all the classic soup, meat, fish, dessert recipes. But I'd hate to get rid of some of the others - even just to pick them off the shelf and browse through them on a grey winter day is a pleasure.
If I was really practical, I'd copy out all the favourite recipes I've ever used and put them onto a nice space-saving database on my computer. But life's too short.........:rotfl:0 -
I just had a look in the kitchen, and came up with the following - the ones that have post-it notes marking loads of pages!
- Lever-arch file of recipes pinched from MSE and other places on the internet, or typed up from food packaging
- Readers Digest Cookery Year
- Linda's Kitchen
- Big Book of Bread
- Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes (kindly sent to me by another MSE-er)
- Country Wines to Make Drink and Cook With
- Vegetarian Cooking in the Microwave
- Ultimate Ice Cream Book
- Nature's Wild Harvest
- Real Witch's Kitchen
- Nanny Ogg's Cookbook (you haven't lived til you've made strawberry wobbler:D)
- Marguerite Patten's Every Day Cook Book (this belonged to Mr LW's mother, and is held together with laccy bands, but is oh so useful!)
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
