Been watching Nigella on the food channel, I feel the need to sample Nigellas cook books coming on.
    Any recommendations?
  • Whilst I like Nigella's writing, I find watching her now almost painful, as if she has become a parody of herself iykwim?
My favourite one is How to Eat-no pics but just so many descriptive recipes, and not as pudding and fat ridden as some of her other ones.
Express is pretty good too-plenty of quick to make things, which I like. I had domestic goddess, but as I never really bake-I gave it away, and Feast-I had for years and never used (all too much really-special occasion food) so it went too. But still get How to eat down and read through it quite regularly-its a good comfort book :D

IKEWYM ;) I do like her writing but I caught her on the telly the other day and found her absolutely nauseating.

I like How To Eat too and Domestic Goddess.

I'm never sure about Nigella - some of her stuff is really good (a lovely vietnamese chicken salad, millionaire's shortbread etc etc) but some of it is RUBBISH ( a duck you did something with water, and turned out wet and uncooked, and I think she has a hideous recipe for a turkey you have to put in a bucket of water - why would you want to fill your food with more water - isn't that what's wrong with all our bacon these days ?) I'd get her books out of the library one at a time and see if you got on with them before buying. (But I can't talk as my house is FULL of books I oughtn't to have bought and hardly use, but can't bear to say goodbye to !)
PS And knowing that she's married to a squillionaire doesn't make me love her at all. All that flutterin her eyelashes at the camera - GRRRRR

I hate cookbooks with no pics (I want food !!!!!!:rotfl:).

I like quick & easy things, great for after work.
I thought Domestic Goddess might be too bakey & Feast too dinner partyish.
    Express it is:D:beer:
Whats Nigella Bites like? Anyone got that - my Xmas list needs a few things;)

I saw her do the turkey thing, I thought it looked good:o
I was thinking of doing it:o

My Library is only small & you need to reserve (from another branch) any nice books - costs £1:rolleyes:

Weight Watchers Time 2 Eat cook book, nice wholesome low fat food! Turkey and ham pie, jambalaya

Actually they would all be weight watchers ones.

I have to agree that the Weightwatchers cookbooks are fantastic, all of them. I've probably cooked more recipes from them than any of my other cookbooks. Even if you're not trying to lose weight the recipes are tasty and varied and always turn out well.

I wrote out a list of my cookbooks the other day and I have about 45  Didn't think I had nearly that many - and there's still so many I want!

The ones I'd save if my house was on fire are probably the following:

    Be-Ro (best cookbook ever!)
    Dairy Book of Family Cookery
    Nigella Express
    Rachel Allen's Home Cooking
    Mary Berry's Ultimate Cake Book
A Weightwatchers one, probably The Time To Eat Cookbook

Next on my list of cookbooks I really want are Nigella's How To Be a Domestic Goddess, Rachel Allen's Bake and Jamie's Ministry of Food.

I don't think I could choose !! I think I'd have to downsize on something else rather than my cooking books and I have loads, plus scrap books with cut outs in. One of my favourite pastimes is looking through all my cooking books, and listing recipes I want to try lol. If I had to give a favourite, that would have to be Good Food The Collection. Has some really good recipes in there :-)
    A work in progress :D
  • Ooooo I'm a naughty cookbookaholic and I've been using this thread to see what books I should buy next!!

But if I was at gun point with what I should keep it would be the books I can't go a week without looking at:

    Rachel Allen Bake!
    Jamie's Ministry of Food.
    River Cottage Family
    Nigella Christmas
    How to feed your family...
