Hi, I'm looking for advice re digital cameras.
We are just a family that uses their current camera for family shots and our hobbies etc. We've currently got a dated Sony DSC-P10 Cybershot that works perfectly well but we want something better that takes better quality photos. It needs to be fairly idiot-proof (we're not stupid though by any means) and with a big viewing screen (unlike current camera). We'd pay up to about £150 for a good camera....
I want to buy one on-line if poss as we live VERY rurally and any ideas as to what to do with the old one welcome!
Thanks in advance, Kay

Hi
Im not very good with cameras but yours has 5mega pixel resolution which isnt that bad really but for a better image up the resolution, so maybe one of these.

Im not saying buy at argos, but maybe worth an instore view.

I can highly recommend the Fuji make in the link above. I have 2 Fuji digital camera's. Both are fantastic & give great results.

I don't think you'll get much better image quality from most cameras - 5 mega pixels provides sufficient resolution for 10x8 prints. The problem is manufacturers are trying to stuff huge numbers of mega pixels into very small sensors which can mean image quality is worse. The key thing is not to be fooled by mega pixels. There's plenty of choice in the 8 and 10 megapixels range and these are likely to be cheaper. The Canon IXUS (such as the IXUS 85) and Powershot (such as the A590) tend to get decent reviews. You'll need to decide how much zoom you need and if you want a viewfinder, which are getting rarer these days.0

I think that Argos camera is over priced. You are paying for the bit that says 12 megapixels. This is perfectly fine for you.

I have seen poor reviews of the J50 though especially regarding image quality. The F60 does get good reviews and is helped by having a bigger sensor than most cameras of this type.0

Hi, thanks ever so much for your replies....
I think our main bug-bears with the current camera are the size of the viewing screen, the fact that the memory sticks are really hard to come by now, the highly annoying delay before it'll actually take the picture (unless that's our fault?)... the photo quality I suppose isn't that bad as it was purchased in 2003 so I guess cameras have improved since then. I know we're not going to get a perfect picture unless we want to spend to hundreds which we can't right now.
I'll look into the Fujifilm F60. ...
Thanks again, Kate :beer:0 -
Good news -
LCDs are now bigger
SD cards are cheap and easy to buy online
The delays are much shorter
I think its usually best to look at what cameras were reviewed around 4-6 months ago.. as they're usually just dropping in price, yet contain all of the latest features.
Try looking at the following:

My 'MSE' choice camera:

Want wide angle and big (10x) zoom?

Don't buy it from there though - camerabox is a company with appalling customer service."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."
